Many of today’s backpacks can
house a lot of racing gear, and
they are used to make it easy to
transport your equipment from
one event to another. Let’s take
a look at what’s inside of Daniel
Sandoval’s Lowepro racing pack.
1 / The main quad is well protected
and packaged inside the backpack.
This backpack has a holder plate,
which allows the quad to sit above
the transmitter and goggles inside the bag.
2 / The tool pouch can hold a number of tools to make it easy to
do minor repairs at the field.
3 / The backup racer is usually attached to the outside of the
backpack without the props on. Most quads are easier to move
around with the props off.
4 / A transmitter that is bound to both quads can be set up
so that both quads have the same control feel or so that each
quad has a different setup, maybe one for racing and the other
5 / A few extra batteries have been charged and are ready to
go. It is a good plan to have them all the same brand and size to
make charging an easy matter.
6 / While there is fair amount of protection inside the bag, most
racers will keep their goggles inside the protective case they
came in. Goggles can be one of the most expensive pieces in your
FPV kit, so having extra protection is worth the space it takes up.
7 / This charger and large battery setup is gaining popularity
among racers. The large battery and small charger will recharge
a number of racing batteries at any location—even if you don’t
have access to AC power.
Depending on how big of an event you have or how well the racers know each other, the pit
area can have a number of people sharing the same spot or each person can have his or her
own table. For our race, all the pilots were good friends and more than willing to work out of
the back of one truck, so it became a community pit center for all to use. Here are just a few of
the things the racers brought with them:
1 / Battery-operated
2 / Solder
3 / Goggles
4 / Screwdrivers, including
one with a Phillips head
5 / Battery packs
6 / GoPro camera
7 / Battery-voltage checker
8 / Soldering-iron
9 / Extra props
10 / Transmitter
11 / Prop nut driver
12 / Quads
13 / Wire cutters
14 / Battery/charger
15 / Extra cones (for
