Plasticase Nanuk 945
The Nanuk 945 case is made out of impact-resistant NK- 7 resin, which can survive
the worst abuse. This waterproof case is
available with inserts to accommodate
various drones, and the one I reviewed
is specifically designed to carry the DJI
Phantom 3 and plenty of accessories.
The outside of the case has four latches,
two on the top and one on each side. These
extra latches keep your mind at ease that
everything inside the case is safely secured.
Two holes, one on each side of the top
latches, allow you to insert two TSA locks.
(The case comes with a “Search Alert”
TSA lock, which has a
feature that lets you
know if the case has been
opened.) An automatic

of the case.
A neoprene air-cell
technology strap is
available with the Nanuk
945 for padded comfort,
better weight distribution,
and easier lifting. In other
words, your shoulders
will thank you, especially
given the case’s hefty 14
pounds empty weight.
(You can also get the 950
model that comes with
wheels.) The carrying
handle can be snapped
shut against the body of
the case when not in use.
eggshell foam on the
top layer is custom-
cut to snugly fit the DJI
Phantom 3, six batteries,
the transmitter, props,
prop guards, USB cable, and tablet. As an added
precaution, I would be careful not to leave the
props on the Phantom 3 because the lid might
cause them to bend. If you prefer to leave
the props on, always make sure that they are
properly rotated to clear contact with the
above layer of eggshell foam.
The sidewalls are sturdy, but they do have
some flex. The integrated slide-lock latches
are primarily nylon and have steel hingepins.
Overall, the Nanuk is very sturdy, and it can
even make a great landing pad in a pinch! It
costs $249.99.—Gus Calderon
